Youth Groups: Wednesdays 7:00 —8:30 pm The senior high and junior high youth groups include music with a live, student-led band, games, video clips and life lessons. During the summer months, camps and outdoor activities provide additional opportunities for fun and spiritual growth. During certain times of the year, service projects are planned by or for the youth. They have traveled to Mexico to build homes for needy families and to New Orleans to help with Katrina Relief efforts. During April 2008, the youth traveled to Mexico. Mission Trip: Mexico This spring (2008), Charter Oak sent a team of senior high school students and adults to Mexico to build a home for a needy family. This project was undertaken in conjunction with AMOR MINISTRIES. This was the seventh time Charter Oak has sent a team to Mexico. The team left Saturday, March 29, and returned Saturday, April 5. AMOR Ministries (Aiding Mexican Orphans and Refugees) began, in 1980, building and refurbishing local orphanages in Tijuana. In 1982, the organization was officially changed to AMOR MINISTRIES. The first AMOR home was built in 1985 at the request of local pastors in Tijuana. More than 500 homes in over 100 different communities have been constructed using cement floors and stucco finishes; and more than 10,000 participants have taken part in AMOR mission trips since the end of 1997. AMOR MINISTRIES doesn’t want a group to just build a house in a developing nation; they want a group to understand the conditions of poverty through immersion. For more information, you may visit AMOR’s website at www.amor.org. Here are a few pictures from past trips.
